Chlorine

Located in Group 17 and Period 3 of the periodic table is the bleach used in swimming pools, called Chlorine. It is extremely reactive and is a strong bleaching agent.

Pools are  clear due to bleaching of Chlorine
First written in description as an oxide of a new element by Carl William Schlee in 1744, and first isolated in 1744 too by Carl William Schlee too. He used hydrochloric acid and react it with manganese oxide. He made a new element but Carl never knew. He simply just assumed it contained oxygen.

The name of Chlorine was given by Sir Humphry Davy in 1810 which he concluded Carl William Schlee had made a new element which after he named it Chlorine.

Chlorine itself is the second most common Halogen and also the 21st most common element, which is about 170 parts per million.
Chlorine is Halogen and therefore its colors are light purple.

How Chlorine got its name?
Chlorine got its name from the greek word ( χλωρός ) ( Khloros ) meaning pale green. It's name was based on its pale greenish color.

Uses
Chlorine was used in bleaches such as Pool Bleaching. This is why after swimming your hands will get wrinkled. Because water washes away sebum on your hands. And water gets into your skin and water starts to swell up in some places but not in others, which causes hands wrinkling.
Hand wrinkles after staying in water too long
